Former city councillor and member of parliament Olivia Chow has won the 2023 by-election to become Toronto's next mayor. Chow will face a nearly $1 billion budget shortfall, a housing affordability crisis, and an aging population.

Chow, a member of the New Democratic Party, served as a city councillor from 2003 to 2014 and as a member of parliament from 2014 to 2019. She is known for her work on social justice issues, including affordable housing and poverty reduction.
