Real Madrid Win Away to Stay Top
Benzema and Asensio score as Real Madrid maintain their lead at the top of La Liga
Real Madrid remain top of La Liga after a 2-0 win away to Real Sociedad on Sunday night. Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio scored the goals for the visitors, who now have a five-point lead over Barcelona at the top of the table.
Real Madrid made a bright start to the game and took the lead in the 17th minute when Benzema prodded home from close range after good work from VinÃcius Júnior down the left flank.
Real Sociedad responded well to going behind and created a number of chances to equalize, but they were unable to find a way past Thibaut Courtois in the Real Madrid goal.
Asensio sealed the victory for Real Madrid in the 57th minute with a fine strike from the edge of the area. The goal was the Spaniard's first in La Liga this season and it proved to be the match-winner.
Real Madrid's win means they have now won their last four league games and they remain the only unbeaten team in La Liga this season.
Real Sociedad remain in fourth place in the table, but they are now six points behind Real Madrid.
