$16 Million Investment from Federal Government

Saskatchewan Research Council to Establish and Commercialize Separation Process

Saskatoon, SK - The Government of Canada has announced a $16 million investment in a new rare earth processing facility in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The facility, operated by the Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC), will establish and commercialize a process to separate unrecovered rare earth elements from electronic waste.

The funding was announced by the Honourable Dan Vandal, Minister responsible for PrairiesCan, during a visit to the SRC facility on Thursday. The investment will support the construction of a pilot plant and the development of a commercialization plan for the rare earth separation process.

Rare earth elements are critical components in many high-tech products, including electronics, batteries, and renewable energy technologies. However, they are also difficult and expensive to extract and process. The SRC's new facility has the potential to revolutionize the rare earth industry by developing a more sustainable and cost-effective way to recover these valuable elements from waste materials.
